He also thinks that classically trained artists have a broader knowledge of the craft while the computer/internet limit the artist to what is on the screen.Īndy Warhol is credited as the most popular artist in the 50’s and 60’s and the creator of what is known as “pop art.” Warhol grew up in the slums of Pittsburgh during the 1930’s Great Depression. He believes that art is a means of survival for a culture rather than for money and fame. Glaser was influenced by American Modernism and the Italian Renaissance. Early on, he was more worried about the clarity of his ideas rather than a developed style. At a young age, Glaser got interested in art by watching a cousin draw a horse. He also worked with metal, did portraits of celebrities that were compared to caricatures, worked with prints, etc. Talking about his other works, Chwast mentioned that he took inspiration from cartoon books when he was young. People said he couldn’t draw but in his drawings, of his cars for example, he said that they invoke a reaction from people.
